On the 25th of August over 300 South Auckland residents from over 40 organisations gathered in St Anne’s Church, Manurewa to make two sets of demands of the candidates seeking our votes in the general election.
One of our demands was about housing, this is because so many people in South Auckland are raising the issue of price, quality, and availability of housing in their faith groups, community groups, and unions.
The housing demands for South Auckland are set out below:
If you become part of the next coalition Government will you promote and support the build of 500 state houses in South Auckland each year?
South Auckland defined as Otahuhu to Papakura and Flat Bush to Mangere.
Will you and your party commit to establishing an additional 200 units in South Auckland, dedicated to emergency housing in the next term of Government?
Will you and your party establish an advisory group within 3 months of the election involving members of the community and the Government?
Four candidates from Labour, New Zealand First, Maori Party, and the Greens said yes.
We need you to add your voice and help these candidates to keep their promise.
Please add your name to the letter below:
Our other demand was around the Living Wage and you can find out more here about that.
